Mooncake moulds!

I can't wait to use these mooncake moulds! I found them at Tangs on Orchard. But they were quite pricey @ SGD15.90 each... The lady said it was buy 2 get 1 free. So I ended up buying 3.... plus a fish mould (SGD6.00) which will be great for Chinese New Year! Hehe~ I can add that to my list of CNY foods to make! :D

I really really like the rabbit one! Is it a bit sad to say that looking at these moulds makes me happier? Haha. Whenever I'm feeling down over here in Singapore, I just look at this photo... and the longing to get back to Melbourne to make my mooncakes for this year!

Oh, I can't wait! I miss home.

I stopped by Takashimaya on the weekend. There were too many mooncake stalls and I was a bit overwhelmed. Not sure what I want to buy and try to bring back home... I'll probably get something on my last week here in Singapore.

12 days until I go back home! Hurrah! :D

Day 16: Macarons, wagashi and farewell

Hokkaido dome brekky #4. One last time.

The contents of my green milk tea (courtesy of the hotel):

Macarons from Bakerzin, Paragon Mall #02-09. 6 macarons for SGD5.00 (~AUD5.45). It was a Feb promotion consisting of the prepacked 6 for SGD5.00 or 1 for SGD1.00.

I got these last night on the way back to the hotel from Takashimaya.

Such pretty colours! :D
I've never tried macarons before...

Here I go:

Peach. Chewy on the outside with a soft cake like centre and cream. Very peachy. It was a tad sweet for my liking though.

Japanese Lemon. I quite liked this. :)

Sakura. Mmm... I think this would be my favourite.

Pistachio.

Coffee. I liked this one too.

Rose. Tasted like .. the roses in our garden (well, smells like them. Lychee-like.) Mmm..

No more! Haha. I like the sakura, Japanese lemon and rose ones. :D I wouldn't advise consuming so many macarons at once. I just wanted to taste test them all (I only had half of each macaron). Hehe. Now when I try and make macarons, I'll know what they're like. :)

And this is what I purchased from Minamoto Kichoan, Takashimaya B2:

Oribe Nishiki, Sakura Mochi and Tenka Taihei. SGD2.60 each (~AUD2.83)

Sakura mochi.
Red bean paste covered with glutinous rice and wrapped in a sakura leaf. The sakura leaf gave a distinct taste. Quite interesting.

Tenka taihei.
Reminded me of a mooncake, but filled with chestnut/red bean paste.

Oribe nishiki.
This was.. practically the same as the fish one. :(

Japanese steam cheese cake from Four Leaves. I got this the other day but never got the chance to eat it. It was really delicious though! So light and fluffy! Yummy! I've really got to try and make this one day.

Changi Airport Terminal 1.

Jetstar flight JQ62 to Melb via Darwin. Farewell Singapore! :(

I'll be back when the economy is better.. :D

Day 15: What I came to look for..

I initially thought the only Daiso that was accessible to me in Singapore was at VivoCity. But I found a Daiso in Plaza Singapura which was conveniently close to our hotel. Hehe. We still went to VivoCity anyway.

Lunch at Food Republic, VivoCity.

Java Kitchen :D

Nasi Kuning SGD6.00. (~AUD6.54)
The blob of spicy stuff on top of that slice of cucumber was too much for me. Too spicy!!

Nasi Rames Beef. SGD6.50 (~AUD7.09)

My food was so spicy that I needed something to cool my internal organs.

Honey red bean milk from Ice shop stall. SGD2.20 (~AUD2.40)
This was kinda disappointing.. It was very little and over priced. And the taste was average..

The seating area in Food Republic was quite dim. But it was a nice place though.

Very.. oldern authentic?

Minamoto Kichoan. -> Wagashi!

Yes, I came in search of wagashi. Mini Japanese cakes/sweets/etc. Found Minamoto Kichoan at Takashimaya Foodhall on Orchard Rd.

I only purchased 3 items. But you'll see them in the next post tomorrow. :P

We also bought some things for dinner:

Fish shaped pancakes from Mr. Obanyaki, Takashimaya B2. SGD1.30 each (~AUD1.42)

Chocolate filling. This one tastes better than the red bean one. Mmm.. like nutella. Haha.

Red bean filling.

Teochew popiah from Yi Kou Wei, Takashimaya B2. SGD2.50 (~AUD2.73)
I could see they didn't have prawns left. But I still bought some anyway. Look how small the popiah is? There's not much filling at all. And the taste was just not the same! I prefer the store in Bugis Junction. Even though this was the same store, same price, same food.. the taste just was not the same! Bugis Junction gives more for your dollar. :P

Oh. And this Durian cake (100gm) is horrible. SGD1.50 (~AUD1.64)
It's like glutinous rice cake. And the taste was just.. unpleasant. It tasted like plastic. Ha.. -__- Never eating this ever again. Never. Yuck.

Tomorrow is the last day in Singapore! :(
